The Children of Israel continued to do what was evil in the eyes of YHVH and YHVH delivered them into the hand of the Philistines for 40 years.
13. Samson “like the sun”
Chapter 13 tells us about Samson’s parents how the Angel approach Manoah’s wife to tell of the birth of Samson. That Samson was to be a Nazareth from birth (Numbers 6:1-21). Manaos told his wife if the angel came back to summon him so that he would understand how to raise the child. His parents made an offering to YHVH.
- Samson was very strong he killed a young lion he tore it apart (Judges 14:6).
- He ate honey from a lion carcass (vs. 8) and he gave the honey to his parents but he didn’t tell them where he got it from.
- He posed riddles to 30 companions, his wife, and father-in-law in exchange for 30 sheets and 30 changes of clothing. His wife told to the companions the solution to the riddle. The solution was honey and a lion.
- His wife was given to Samson’s companion in marriage, after Samson Ashkelon and struck down 30 of them.
- He returned to his wife but his father-in-law told hi m that she had been given to his companion but offered Samson, her younger sister. Samson took revenge by tying torches to the tails of 300 foxes. The foxes destroyed fields of grain for the Philistines.
- The Philistines come to arrest Samson from the tribe of Judah
- He took the jawbone of a donkey and killed 1000 Philistines afterwards he was very thirsty and he asked YHVH for water and water poured out from the hollow of the jaw bone. The name of that place was called Enhakkorei (Spring of the Caller)
- Samson judged Israel for 20 years.
