32:1
Listen heaven! I will speak! Earth! Hear the words of my mouth!
Ha’azinu hashamayim va’adaberah vetishma ha’arets imrey-fi.
32:2
My lesson shall drop like rain, my saying shall flow down like the dew – like a downpour on the herb, like a shower on the grass.
Ya’arof kamatar likchi tizal katal imrati kis’irim aley-deshe vechirvivim aley-esev.
32:3
When I proclaim God’s name, praise God for His greatness.
Ki shem Adonay ekra havu godel le’Eloheynu.
32:4
The deeds of the Mighty One are perfect, for all His ways are just. He is a faithful God, never unfair; righteous and moral is He.
Hatsur tamim pa’olo ki chol-drachav mishpat el emunah ve’eyn avel tsadik veyashar hu.
32:5
Destruction is His children’s fault, not His own, you warped and twisted generation.
Shichet lo lo banav mumam dor ikesh uftaltol.
32:6
Is this the way you repay God, you ungrateful, unwise nation? Is He not your Father, your Master, the One who made and established you?
Ha le’Adonay tigmelu-zot am naval velo chacham halo-hu avicha kanecha hu ascha vayechonenecha.
32:7
Second Reading
Remember days long gone by. Ponder the years of each generation. Ask your father and let him tell you, and your grandfather, who will explain it.

32:8
When the Most High gave nations their heritage and split up the sons of man, He set up the borders of nations to parallel the number of Israel’s descendants.
Behanchel Elyon goyim behafrido beney adam yatsev gvulot amim lemispar beney Yisra’el.
32:9
But His own nation remained God’s portion; Jacob was the lot of His heritage.
Ki chelek Adonay amo Ya’akov chevel nachalato.
32:10
He brought them into being in a desert region, in a desolate, howling wasteland. He encompassed them and granted them wisdom, protecting them like the pupil of His eye.
Yimtsa’ehu be’erets midbar uvetohu yelel yeshimon yesovevenhu yevonenehu yitsrenhu ke’ishon eyno.
32:11
Like an eagle arousing its nest, hovering over its young, He spread His wings and took them, carrying them on His pinions.
Kenesher ya’ir kino al-gozalav yerachef yifros knafav yikachehu yisa’ehu al-evrato.
32:12
God alone guided them; there was no alien power with Him.
Adonay badad yanchenu ve’eyn imo el nechar.
32:13
Third Reading
He carried them over the earth’s highest places, to feast on the crops of the field. He let them suckle honey from the bedrock, oil from the flinty cliff.

32:14
They had] the cheese of cattle, milk of sheep, fat of lambs, rams of the Bashan, and luscious fat wheat. They drank the blood of grapes for wine.
Chem’at bakar vachalev tson im-chelev karim ve’eylim bney-Vashan ve’atudim im-chelev kilyot chitah vedam-enav tishteh-chamer.
32:15
Jeshurun thus became fat and rebelled. You grew fat, thick and gross. [The nation] abandoned the God who made it and spurned the Mighty One who was its support.
Vayishman Yeshurun vayiv’at shamanta avita kasita vayitosh Eloha asahu vayenabel tsur yeshu’ato.
32:16
They provoked His jealousy with alien practices; made Him angry with vile deeds.
Yakni’uhu bezarim beto’evot yach’isuhu.
32:17
They sacrificed to demons who were non-gods, deities they never knew. These were new things, recently arrived, which their fathers would never consider.
Yizbechu lashedim lo Eloha Elohim lo yeda’um chadashim mikarov ba’u lo se’arum avoteychem.
32:18
You thus ignored the Mighty One who bore you; forgot the Power who delivered you.
Tsur yeladecha teshi vatishkach el mecholelecha.
32:19
Fourth Reading
When God saw this, He was offended, provoked by His sons and daughters.
Vayar Adonay vayin’ats mika’as banav uvnotav.
32:20
He said:
I will hide My face from them, and see what will be their end. They are a generation which reverses itself and cannot be trusted.
Vayomer astirah fanay mehem er’eh mah acharitam ki dor tahpuchot hemah banim lo-emun bam.
32:21
They have been faithless to Me with a non-god, angering Me with their meaningless acts. Now I will be unfaithful to them with a non-nation, provoking them with a nation devoid of gratitude.
Hem kin’uni velo-el ki’asuni behavleyhem va’ani akni’em belo-am begoy naval ach’isem.
32:22
My anger has kindled a fire, burning to the lowest depths. It shall consume the land and its crops, setting fire to the foundations of mountains.
Ki-esh kadechah ve’api vatikad ad-she’ol tachtit vatochal erets vivulah vatelahet mosdey harim.
32:23
I will heap evil upon them, striking them with My arrows.
Aspeh aleymo ra’ot chitsay achaleh-bam.
32:24
[They will be] bloated by famine, consumed by fever, cut down by bitter plague. I will send against them fanged beasts, with venomous creatures who crawl in the dust.
Mezey ra’av ulechumey reshef veketev meriri veshen-behemot ashalach-bam im-chamat zochaley afar.
32:25
Outside, the sword shall butcher boys, girls, infants, white-headed elders, while inside, there shall be terror.
Michuts teshakel-cherev umechadarim eymah gam-bachur gam-betulah yonek im-ish seyvah.
32:26
I was prepared to exterminate them, to make their memory vanish from among mankind.
Amarti af’eyhem ashbitah me’enosh zichram.
32:27
But I was concerned that their enemies would be provoked, and their attackers alienated, so that they would say, ‘Our superior power and not God, was what caused all this.’

But they are a nation who destroys good advice, and they themselves have no understanding.

Fifth Reading
If they were wise, they would contemplate this, and understand what their end will be.
Lu chachmu yaskilu zot yavinu le’acharitam.
32:30
How could one [man] pursue a thousand, or two [men], ten thousand, if their Mighty One had not given them over, and God had not trapped them?
Eychah yirdof echad elef ushnayim yanisu revavah im-lo ki-tsuram mecharam va’Adonay hisgiram.
32:31
Their powers are not like our Mighty One, although our enemies sit in judgment.
Ki lo chetsurenu tsuram ve’oyeveynu plilim.
32:32
But their vine is from the vine of Sodom and the shoot of Gomorrah. Their grapes are poison grapes; their grape cluster is bitterness to them.

32:33
Their vine is serpents’ venom, like the poison of the dreadful cobra.
Chamat taninim yeynam verosh petanim achzar.
32:34
But it is concealed with Me for the future, sealed up in My treasury.
Halo-hu kamus imadi chatum be’otsrotay.
32:35
I have vengeance and retribution, waiting for their foot to slip. Their day of disaster is near, and their time is about to come.
Li nakam veshilem le’et tamut raglam ki karov yom eydam vechash atidot lamo.
32:36
God will then take up the cause of His people, and comfort His servants. He will have seen that their power is gone, with nothing left to keep or abandon.
Ki-yadin Adonay amo ve’al-avadav yitnecham ki yir’eh ki-ozlat yad ve’efes atsur ve’azuv.
32:37
[God] will then say: Where is their god, the power in which they trusted?
Ve’amar ey Eloheymo tsur chasayu vo.
32:38
[Where are the gods] who ate the fat of their sacrifices and drank the wine of their libations? Let them now get up and help you! Let them be your protector!
Asher chelev zevacheymo yochelu yishtu yeyn nesicham yakumu veyazruchem yehi aleychem sitrah.
32:39
But now see! It is I! I am the [only] One! There are no [other] gods with Me! I kill and give life! If I crushed, I will heal! But there is no protection from My power!
Re’u atah ki ani ani hu ve’eyn elohim imadi ani amit va’achayeh machatsti va’ani erpa ve’eyn miyadi matsil.
32:40
Sixth Reading
I lift My hand to heaven and say: I am Life forever.
Ki-esa el-shamayim yadi ve’amarti chay anochi le’olam.
32:41
I will whet My lightning sword and grasp judgment in My hand. I will bring vengeance against My foes, and repay those who hated Me.
Im-shanoti berak charbi vetochez bemishpat yadi ashiv nakam letsaray velimsan’ay ashalem.
32:42
I will make My arrows drunk with blood, My sword consuming flesh. The enemy’s first punishment will be the blood of the slain and wounded.

32:43
Let the tribes of His nation sing praise, for He will avenge His servants’ blood. He will bring vengeance upon His foes, and reconcile His people [to] His land.

Seventh Reading
Moses came and proclaimed all the words of this song to the people, along with Hoshea son of Nun.
Vayavo Moshe vayedaber et-kol-divrey hashirah-hazot be’ozney ha’am hu veHoshea bin-Nun.
32:45
When Moses had finished speaking all these words to all Israel,
Vayechal Moshe ledaber et-kol-hadevarim ha’eleh el-kol-Yisra’el.
32:46
he said to them, ‘Pay close attention to all the words through which I warn you today, so that you will be able to instruct your children to keep all the words of this Torah carefully.
Vayomer alehem simu levavchem lechol-hadevarim asher anochi me’id bachem hayom asher tetsavum et-beneychem lishmor la’asot et-kol-divrey hatorah hazot.
32:47
It is not an empty teaching for you. It is your life, and with it you will long endure on the land which you are crossing the Jordan to occupy.’

Last Reading
On that very day,God spoke to Moses, saying:
Vayedaber Adonay el-Moshe be’etsem hayom hazeh lemor.
32:49
Climb the Avarim Mountain here to Mount Nebo, in the land of Moab facing Jericho, and see the land of Canaan that I am giving the Israelites as a holding.
Aleh el-har ha’avarim hazeh har-Nevo asher be’erets Moav asher al-peney Yerecho ur’eh et-erets Kena’an asher ani noten livney Yisra’el la’achuzah.
32:50
Die on the mountain that you are climbing, and be gathered up to your people, just as your brother Aaron died on Hor Mountain and was gathered to his people.
Umut bahar asher atah oleh shamah vehe’asef el-ameycha ka’asher-met Aharon achicha beHor hahar vaye’asef el-amav.
32:51
This is because you broke faith with me in the midst of the Israelites at the Waters of Dispute at Kadesh in the Tzin Desert, and because you did not sanctify Me among the Israelites.

32:52
You will therefore see the land from afar, but you will not come there to the land I am giving the Israelites.
