Chapter 48:
Jacob is preparing to die. He summons Joseph to bless him and his sons, Ephraim and Manasseh.
Jacob tells Joseph that he’s making Ephraim and Manasseh his, but that progeny born to him after them are Joseph’s. Manasseh is the first born but he out the first born blessing on Ephraim.
Verses 15 – 16:
He blessed Joseph and he said, O God before Whom my forefathers Abraham and Isaac walked — God Who shepherds me from my inception until this day: May the angl who redeems me from all evil bless the lads, and may my name be declared upon the a nod the name so f my forefathers Abraham and Isaac and May they proliferate abundantly like fish within the land.
Ephraim’s blessing:
…he too will become a people, and hero will become great; yet his younger brother shall become greater than he, and his off-spring[‘s fame] will fill the nations. (Verse 19).
By you shall Israel bless, saying, May God make you like Ephraimand like Manasseh — and he put Ephraim before Manasseh. (Verse 20).
Chapter 49:
Jacob’s blessing for his sons.
Reuben:
You are my firstborn, my strength and my initial vigor, foremost in rank in power. Water-like impetuosity — you cannot be foremost because you mounted your father’s bed; then you desecrated Him Who ascend my couch. (Verse 3 & 4).
Simeon and Levi:
Are comrades, their weaponry is a stolen craft. Into their conspiracy, may my soul not enter! With their congregation, do not join, O my honor! For in their rage they murderedpeople and at their whim they hamstrung an ox. Accursed is their rage for it is intense, and their wrath for it is harsh; I will separate them within Jacob, and I will disperse them in Israel. (Verses 5 – 7).
Judah:
You, your brothers shall acknowledge; your hand will be at your enemies’ nape; your father’s sons will prostrate themselves to you. A lion cub is Judah; from the prey, my son, you elevated yourself. He crouches, lies down like a lion, and like an awesome lion, who dares rouse him? Thescepterhall not depart from Judah nor as collar from among his descendants until Shiloh arrives and his will be anassemblage of nations. He will tie his donkey to the vine; to the vine branch his donkey’s foal; he will launder his garments in wine and his robe in the blood of grapes. Red eyed from wine, and white toothed from milk. (Verses 8 – 12).
Zebulun:
Shall settle by seashores. He shall at the ship’s harbor, and his last border will reach Zidon. (Verse 13).
Issachar:
Is a strong-boned donkey; he rests between the boundaries. He saw tranquility that it was good, and the land that it was pleasant, yet he bent his shoulder to bear and he became an indentured laborer. (Verses 14 – 15).
Dan:
Will avenge his people, the tribes of Israelwill be united as one. Dan will be serpent on the highway, a viper by the path, that bites a horse’s heels so it’s rider falls backward. For your salvation do I long O YHVH. (Verses 16 – 18).
Gad:
Will recruit a regiment and it will retreat on its heel. (Verse 19).
Asher:
From Asher — his bread will have richness, and he will provide kingly delicacies. (Verse 20).
Naphtali:
Is a hind let loose who delivers beautiful sayings. (Verse 21).
Joseph:
A charming son is Joseph, a charming son to the eye; each of his girls climbed heights to gaze. They embittered him and became antagonists; the arrow-tongued men hated him. But his bow was firmly me laced and his arms were gilded, from the hands of the Mighty Powerof Jacob — for. There, he shepherded the’s tone of Israel. [That was] from the God of your father and He will help you, and with Shaddai — and He will bless you [with] blessing of heaven from above! blessings of the deep crouching below! blessings of the bosom and womb. The blessings of your father surpassed the blessings of my parents to endless bounds of the world’s hills. Let them be upon Joseph’s head and upon the head of the exile from his brothers. (Verses 22 – 26).
Benjamin:
Is a predatory wolf; in the morning he will devour prey and in the evening he will distribute spoils. (Verse 27).
All these are the tribes of Israel — twelve — and this is what their father spoke to them and he blessed them; he blessed each according to his appropriate blessing (verse 28).
He instructs his sons to bury him in the cave of Machpelah with Abraham and Sarah, Isaac and Rebecca, and Leah.
Jacob finished instructing his sons, he drew his feet onto the bed; he expired and was gathered to his people.
Chapter 50:
Joseph ordered his servants to embalm his father, to embalm Israel (verse 2).
Joseph asks Pharoah to be allowed to go and bury Jacob (Israel) in Mamre in Machpelah. They came to Goren HaAtad and they eugolized Jacob. The eulogy was “imposing” and the inhabitants of Canaan called the placed Avel Mizraim, “mourning if the Egyptians”.
Joseph’s brother perceived that with Jacob gone, that Joseph May Barbour hatred against them. Joseph told them to “Fear not, for am I instead of God?” (Verse 19). Joseph tells them “Fear not, I will sustain you and your young ones. Thus he comforted them and spoke to their heart. (Verse 21).
Joseph lived 110 years. He saw three generations through Ephraim; even the sons of Machir son of Manasseh were raised on Joseph’s knees.
Joseph said to his brothers, I am about to die, but God will surely remember young bring you up out of this land that He swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob. When God will indeed remember you, the. You must bring hm bones up out of here. (Verses 24 – 25).
