Chapter 41:
Pharaoh dreams about the pending 7 years of plenty, 7 years of famine.
Pharaoh appoints Joseph as his second in command. Joseph gives him Asenath for a wife. Joseph is charged with preparing Egypt for the pending famine.
Asenath bears him 2 sons. Manasseh, and Ephraim. Egypt hungered and Pharaoh told Egypt to do as Joseph told them.
Chapter 42
Jacob perceived that there was provisions in Egypt. He sent 10 of his sons down to Egypt to procure provisions for them. Joseph declares them as spies, his brothers did not recognize him. He tells that that he will hold 9 of them and send one back to get Benjamin. After three days, he sends 9 of them and holds Simeon, while the others return. Reuben says to his brothers, did I not tell you not to sun against the boy? But you wold not,listen, now his blood is being avenged.
They repeat the story to Jacob. They are all greatly distressed that their money was returned to them. Reuben says that he will look over Benjamin and Jacob can slay his two sons if he fail to bring Benjamin back.
Jacob refuses to let Benjamin go.
Verse 36:
…”….Joseph is gone! Simeon is gone! And now you would take away Benjamin? Upon me it has fallen!”
(He will add is gone, Hearing is gone, and now you would take away the son of the right hand?).
