Beresheit
As usual it took us 2 weeks to cover this Torah portion. As always there is alot of things that the Lord brings to our attention as this is where everything began, and this is where YHVH seeks to bring us back to.
One of the things that we discussed that I noticed this time, that I hadn’t necessarily paid attention to before is that in the first 4 days of creation there are 4 different separations.
Day One:
YHVH said “Let there be light” and there was light. God saw that the light was good. Now on the previous cycle we discussed that there was light that existed but it did not come from the luminaries, the sun or the moon as they have not yet been created. There are not created until the 4th day. So then what is this light. This is what I understood since the fall of the angels has occurred prior to this, the darkness that is scene in verse 2 is from this fall. So now YHVH is saying let there be light. Obviously His light has remained the entire time but when He declared that the light would shine, He’s revealing to us who remained of the angels that still reflected His light and not the darkness of rebellion. YHVH then separated between the light and darkness. YHVH called to the Light, Day and to the darkness He called, Night. and there was evening and there was morning one day.
We looked up the words evening and morning. To get a better understanding of this time reference.
Evening — latter part of the day; early part of the night. Morning beginning of the day. Night is used to reference complete darkness, I guess that it would be similar to what the Egyptians experienced during the 3 days of darkness during the plagues. (See Ex 10:23).
So this first day is a separation between light and darkness. He is the light and those who have fallen are the darkness.
Day Two:
YHVH created the firmament in the heaven it separated between water and water. Water is a reference for spirit. He created this firmament to separate between the water above and the water below. He called the firmament Heaven. So Heaven is something that separates between water and water. .
Day Three:
The waters beneath heaven are gathered into one area. Then the dry land appears. To the gathering of waters He called Seas and to the dry land He called Earth. In the strong’s gathered — to bind together. During this day the “earth sprouted vegetation.”
Day Four:
Let there be luminaries in the firmament of the heaven to searate between the day and the night; and they shall serve as signs, and for festivals and for days and years; and they shall serve as luminaries in the firmament of the heaven to shine upon the earth. And it was so.
So the luminaries were created, we know them as the sun, moon and stars. There were 2 great luminaries, the greater luminary to dominate the day and the lesser luminary to dominate the night and the stars.
So this verse gave me pause several times. I see that the greater luminary is also a symbolic reference to YHVH. YHVH is to dominate the day, as He just separated day from night. The lesser luminary is a symbolic reference to Yeshua, who is to dominate the night, because He is salvation and He dominates the night. He because of salvation can dominate the night so that we are only filled with the light of the father, YHVH as we represent the stars.
In Chapter 3, this is where I saw something new.
We looked again at how the serpent deceived Eve. I’ve also begun to read a teaching that speaks to this darkness that was able to deceive Eve.
One of the things that came against Eve was lust. Most time we’ve been taught to think that lust is sexual, but the dictionary, the former or archaic meaning was pleasure or delight. desire; inclination; wish. Chapt 3:6 says, “And the woman perceived that the tree was good for eating and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was desirable as a means to wisdom and she took of its fruit and ate; and she gave also to her husband with her and he ate” (emphasis added by author).
It was discussed that the thoughts that she accepted from the serpent were actually there in her already, she took the time to stop and entertain those thoughts then she acted upon them. Some of the demons that gained access through the next few verses are lust, shame, fear, blame, deception, disobedience, rebellion, self (in various attributes), suffering, pain, craving, and enmity.
The remainder of this portion we discussed the details of what happen but ran out of time again.
