Genesis 18:1 – 22:24

Chapter 18:
Mamre – “strength or fatness”
Entrance of the tent – the place where business is conducted.
Where is Sarah your wife? – YHVH never asks a question that He doesn’t actually know the answer to. This is to see if Abraham knows where his wife is.
Is Anything beyond YHVH? — YHVH is limitless and He’s all knowing.
Abraham “..commands his children (despite only have Ishmael) and his household after him that theykeep the way of YHVH doing ‘charity and justice'”.
Charity (KJV – Justice) Tsed-a-ka – Justice, Righteousness, to be just, righteous, from Heb 8199, Judge, govern, vindicate, punish
Justice (KJV – Judgement) – Mishphat (Judgement, justice, ordinance).
Outcry – to cry out, outcry, cry of distress, clamour. Za’aq (Heb 2199)
vs 21, I will descend and see, if they act in accordance with its outcry which has come to me – then destruction! And if not, I will know.
Abraham intercedes:
To now stamp out the righteous with the wicked. Starts with 50 total people in Sodom and Gomorrah and ends wtih 10.
Chapter 19:
Sodom – “burning”
Gomorrah – “submersion”

Wash Feet
Spend the night
Recline beneath the tree
Wash your feet
Fetch a morsel of bread, sustain yourselves
Then wake up early and go your way
Bread, milk, cream and prepared calf
Lot urged the angels to stay the night at his house. Lot made the feast, in contrast Abraham had Sarah prepare the bread and to kneed and make cakes.
Lot offered us his daughters to “all the people from every quarter” in Sodom. Even though his daughters were betrothed to other men.
The angels pulled Lot into his house and they struck the Sodomites with blindness. Result of the the spiritual condition of Sodom.
YHVH sent the angels to destroy Sodom.
vs 15: Lot was commanded to:
- Get up
- Take your wife and 2 daughters who are present (Did Lot have other daughters were were NOT present???)
- Lest you be swept away because of the sin of the city
Still he lingered. The men grasped him by the hand, his wife’s hand and the hands of his two daughters in YHVH mercy on him. (Only 4 were found to be righteous. Abraham interceded for 10.) The angels took him out and left him outside the city.
- Flee for your life!
- Do not look behind you nor stop anywhere in all the plain
- Flee to the mountain lest you be swept away
Lot asks to flee to the city Zoar – “insignifigance”.
Lot’s wife peered behind her and turned into a pillar of salt. Left left Zoar an went to the mountain (where he was supposed to go initially). Lot conceives two sons by his 2 daughters.
Moab – “of my father”
Ben-Ammi – “son of my people” descendant of Ammon.
Chapter 20:
Abimelech – “My father is King”
Gerar – “a lodging place, soujourning”
Abraham left the Plain near Sodom and Gomorroh and journed south (light) and settled between Kadesh “Holy” and Shur “Vision/Purpose Identity” he soujourned in Gerar.
YHVH prevented Abimelech from sinning against Him. He acknowledges the innocence of Abimelech’s hart but does NOT acknowledge the “integrity of his hands”. Regarding Abraham and Sarah desception regarding their marital status.
Abimelech allows Abraham to settle “where he saw fit” in his land.
- Settle wherever you see fit
- Gave him 1000 pieces of silver (He gaves these to SarahL
- It was an eye-covering for all who are with you and to all you will be vindicated
Abraham prayed to Elohim and Elohim healed Abimelch. He had completed restrained every orifice of the household of Abimelech, because of Sarah, wife of Abraham.
Chapter 21:
Birth of Isaac.
Sarah conceived and bore Abraham a son at the appointed time. Isaac – “Laughter/joy”
vs 4) Abrahm circumcised Isaac at 8 days old. He fulfilled the Abrhamic covenant with Isaac at the approinted time alloted by YHVH.
Abraham was 100 years old when Isaac was born to him.
vs 10) Sarah says to Abraham “Drive out this slave woman with her son. For her son the son of teh salvewoman shall not inherit with my son, with Isaac”.
This was the thing sarah didn’t see from Lech Lecha, when she offered Hagar to her husband. Thus you can not be built up through someone else. See Gen 16:2.
This grieved Abraham to send out Ishmael. But YHVH considred Isaac and his offspring Abraham’s. He made Ishmael into a great nation.
vs 13) Hagar didn’t want to see Ishamel die.
vs 20) He dwelt in the desert and became an accomplished archer. He livd in the desert of Paran and Hagar took an Egyptian wife for him.
Beersheba
Abraham and Abimelech and Phicol (“mouth of all” took an oath.
Abraham gave to Abimelech 7 ewes. 7 – (completion). He gave him the ewes as a testimony that Abraham dug the well. Abraham named the well Beersheba “Well of the oath”.
Oath – “Will not deal falsly with me nor with my son nor with my grandon according to the kindness that I have done with you, do with me, and with the land in which you sojourn.”
Abraham soujourned int he land of the Philistines many years.
Chapter 22:
Binding of Isaac (Spiritual Testing)
Moriah – “Chosen by YHVH”
Abraham does not withold Isaac from YHVH. YHVH YIREH – “YHVH will be seen”
YHVH bless Abraham:
- Bless Abraham
- Greatly increase your offspring like the stars of the heavens and like the sand on the seashore
- And your offspring shall inherit the gate of its enemy
- All the nations of the earth shall bless themselves by your offspring, because youhave listen to My voice
YHVH revealed to Abraham a ram caught in the thicket and he used this to sacrifice instead of Issac. Abraham returned to the Beersheba.
