Chapter 30:
Rachel’s envious because Leah has given Jacob four sons. She then gives her maidservant Bilhah to Jacob. Bilhah has two sons by Jacob. Dan “judge” and Naphtali “wrestling, struggle”.
Leah gives her maidservant to Jacob, Zilpah and she bares Jacob two sons also. Gad “good fortune”, and Asher, “fortunate”.
Leah bears Jacob, Issachar, “reward”. Zebulun, “dwelling” and his daughter Dinah, “judgment”.
YHVH remember Rachel and bears Joseph, “he will add”.
Jacob asks to take all that was his and leave Laban. He asks to take all of the speckled, spotted a d brownish lambs and the speck and spotted goats. He placed rods of poplar, hazel, chestnut and peeled white steaks in them. He put the rods in the watering receptacles to stimulate the flocks. He put these rods during early bearings flocks, and those sheep he kept. The flocks during the late bearing flocks he did Not put the rods in, those want to Laban. He became exceedingly prosperous and had fecund flocks, maidservants, servants, camels and donkeys.
Chapter 31:
Laban’s disposition toward Jacob changes. Jacob leaves with all that he amassed in Paddan-aram. Rachel steals an idol. Laban pursues them and catches them. Jacob says that whoever he finds the idol with ‘shall not live’ (but he didn’t know Rachel had taken it. Laban doesn’t find the idol, as Rachel is sitting on it.
Jacob is angry at Laban for tearing through his camp. Try gathered stones and made a mound, Jacob called it Galeed, “Hill of Witness”.
Verse 49: “…May YHVH keep watch between me and you when we are outfit each other’s sight…..”
Verse 52:
The mound as to serve as a witness and a monument shall be a witness that I may not cross over to you past this mound, nor may you cross over to me past this mound or monument for evil.
Laban left and returned to his land. Jacob left and encountered angels. He called the place Mahanaim, ” two hosts”.
